Ginger Almond Soother!

It's been rainy and grey everyday this week and it's making me crave warm and creamy hot drinks.  What about you?  I generally try to avoid buying these drinks when I'm out, they tend to have a lot of extra sugars loaded in them and even if you find a cafe that uses almond milk and not cow dairy or soy, they tend to use the brands that have sweeteners, fillers and binders in the ingredients and they tend to charge a small fortune!Seems the best answer is to make my my own drink and I'm so excited to share with you because it was delicious, cheap, easy and got a very big thumbs up from my friends!

First, I began heating some almond milk on the stove on low heat to preserve the healthy fats in the milk (I don't own a steamer, if you do, you can use it). As it was heating I juiced some ginger and added it to the pot (if you don't have a juicer, just slice thinly and add slices to pot to steep).

Then I added some maple syrup to taste and when it was warm, poured into cups. You can sprinkle some cinnamon on the top and voila, a Ginger Almond Soother! I have loved sharing this delicious drink with friends this week and even started bringing some to work in a thermos for a treat at the end of a long and rainy day and it was heaven!

And are there health benefits to this drink?  You bet! Ginger is an amazing root.  Long used in Ayurveda as a warming spice to improve circulation and create heat in the body.  Ginger contains phytonutrients called, gingerols, that have potent anti-inflammatory effects.  Ginger is also a wonderful natural remedy for nausea and stomach upset.

As for almonds, they are an amazing nut, a good source of Vitamin E and heart healthy monounsaturated fats, as well as bone-builidng magnesium and energy-producing B vitamins.

So, enjoy, be creative and let me know what you think!
