Dry skin brushing for health and beauty!

Want a simple way to Love Your Body by promoting detoxification, boosting your immunity and stimulating your hormonal and circulatory systems?  Want to beat the dry skin blues and have healthy, glowing skin?Dry skin brushing is an amazing and simple therapy to add to your routine. The skin is the largest elimination organ your body has and it's responsible for eliminating over a quarter of the toxins in our bodies everyday!

Dry skin brushing helps on the outside by helping to prevent clogged pores that can block the skin's ability to remove toxins from our system.  Brushing  also gets rid of any dead skin and stimulates oil glands and the circulatory system to keep us glowing on the outside.

On our insides, dry skin brushing helps the lymphatic system circulate.  The lymph system works with the circulatory system to remove debris and toxins from our body.  But, unlike the circulatory system, it doesn't have a pump.  So, we can help the lymph system by physically brushing in the direction of lymphatic flow.  This is an amazing way to detoxify our insides and to boost our immune system by helping to move toxins through our system more quickly!

Dry skin brushes can be found at most health food stores.  There are a few different techniques for how to brush and you can find lots of videos online.  In general, use either long, even strokes or circular motions.  It's important to brush in the direction of the lymph system.  So, begin with the feet and brush up the legs.  When you get to your abdomen, lightly keep brushing up the tummy and the back in the direction of your heart.  Then move to the hands and brush up the arms.

The perfect time to brush is before you get in the shower or bath.  I like doing it in the morning because its really invigorating so it helps to wake me up!  It's also beneficial to be washing your skin afterwards to remove all the dead skin and toxins you just released.  Use a natural soap and take advantage of your open pores by moisturizing with an oil after you get out of the tub.  I like using coconut oil during the dryer winter months.  I keep my oil in a glass jar and then put that in a bowl of hot water to heat the oil up so its nice and warm when I get out of the shower.  I apply the oil on my skin in the same direction as I dry skin brushed moving from the extremities to my heart.  Not only does coconut oil make you smell amazing but you'll be surprised at how quickly it absorbs and how ungreasy and soft it makes your skin. If you don't like coconut oil, sunflower or olive oil are also great moisturizers.  I like to add a drop of essential oil when I use these guys to improve the smell!

So, give it a try and be amazed at how much better your skin feels and how nice it is to take a bit of time to Love Your Body!
