DIY Mat Spray

January is often one of the busiest months at yoga studios. Resolutions play a big part, but so does the weather. For me, I often end up practicing more than usual because it's too cold and snowy to be riding my bike. Whatever your reason, if you find yourself rolling out your mat, don't forget to give it a good wipe down when you're done! Mats can get smelly which isn't nice to move on, but more importantly, they can also harbour germs. This simple DIY Mat Spray will banish bad smells and keep your mat germ-free!

DIY Mat Spray Recipe

1 cup witch hazel distillate (NOT the alcohol free one)

Fresh blend:
15 drops lavender essential oil
15 drops lemongrass essential oil
10 drops tea tree essential oil
5 drops eucalyptus essential oil
5 drops spearmint essential oil

Herbal citrus blend:
15 drops bergamot essential oil
15 drops sweet orange essential oil
10 drops lavender essential oil
5 drops rosemary essential oil
5 drops spearmint essential oil

Use a funnel to add witch hazel to an 8oz spray bottle.
Choose essential oil blend and add to bottle. If you want to use a different blend of essential oils, combine to a total of roughly 50 drops.
To use, shake bottle to distribute essential oils. Spray onto the entire surface of your mat and use a cloth to wipe. Leave mat unfolded on the floor or hang over a railing or the back of a chair until completely dry.

Hope you like these scent blends as much as I do. I find this spray not only cleans but adds a lovely aromatherapy effect that seals my practice and settles my mind before I leave my mat and continue on with my day.
